How many, of those who tie their own harnesses, tie them with out the blades attached and then had the blades while fishing? With all the blade colors available, it seems that it would be easier just to tie the harnesses and adjust on the lake. I know that most don't use a lot of bead colors, so this seems like a good idea. I know that I use chart, green, gold, orange, pink, purple, and blue. I am getting ready to retie all my harnesses just wondering what is best.

I just know that I have more blades than harnesses made. I've used the "quick change" clevis on most of them just in case I want to change while on the water.

Is there some place on line that shows the methods for tying harnesses? Or a book like "Harness Tying for Dummies"?

Blue Dolphin, I have ordered the quick change clevis' but do you tie some with blades and then have other blades in a plano box or are all your blades in the box?
Grady, It is actually very easy and very addicting to tie your own. Oh and it can get costly if your not careful, just ask Rocky about the money. The "hardest" part to me is deciding which ones to use. I still have ones I tied last year that have never seen the water. I know Blue dolphin gave a wonderful seminar on how to tie them but I know there are posts either on here or OGf that talk about it. I Snell both hooks and then it is just a matter of adding the beads, Clevis and blades and most add a bead just in front of the clevis. If you need help with the Snell knot PM me and I will send you the easiest way to do it.

If I'm tying dipsy harnesses, I usually use the closed clevis and put on a blade (colorado) or 2 (willows), these are short harnesses. If i'm tying the longer harnesses for inlines, snap weights or bottom bouncers, then I use a quik change clevis and keep the blades in the box. I try to have a few of each bead pattern that I use tied up. Chartreause, Orange, Green, Pink, Purple and then a few with mixed colors.

Thanks Gary that is what I thought you did but didn't want to read between the lines. You have years on me in the harness game. Just wondering what was easiest. Bob thanks for the info. That makes sense too.
