Do you guys think the plastic clevis are more gental on harnesses or the folded metal ones? With all the spinning they do I was just wondering which one does the less harm to the line.

Bigmtman; I use the plastic ones myself, the red ones you can get at Rodmakers. I guess some guys say they lose their blades more with these, but that's what I use...

As long as you place a round bead above the clevise, there is no pressure placed upon it by the line, espcecially when fighting a fish. The beads above and below a clevises will take all the strain so you want to make sure those two beads are good and smooth. The act of either a folded or plastic clevise spinning isn't harmful enough to cause a break unless you spin your harnesses all year long! The stirrup type metal clevises will cut into your line and I only use those on wire. A stirrup differs from a folded in that the line hole is drilled down through the metal so the edges of the lip are thin and will cut. And, if you can avoid faceted beads next to the clevise, that will help as they aren't molded nearly as smooth as most of the round style beads. Hope that helps.

I use plastic quick change as well. I don't reuse any one spinner long enough to even notice a problem, either the line around the snells gets roughed up to much or the fish trash a hook...off to the retie pile it goes or into the garbage. If your using a harness all year your doing something wrong and it's not the harness LOL.

You can also use the fixed metal clevises if it is a blade that you absolutely don't want to lose. I haven't had these hurt my line no matter how long I use them. The problem with these is that its a pain in the rear to change a blade. I primarily use the plastic quick change clevis myself but have run into situations where I use the fixed metal ones in a tourney if I only have one blade that is working well.

Yep I've done that too. Some blades just always pull fish, On tourney day I have done that if I have the metal ones with me. I think I'm going to start making some proven double willows with metal ones just because I tie those with mostly fireline and they don't need to be retied nearly as much, I don't pull them that often (maybe 5 trips per year)so they will last me all year most don't even get used and when i do pull them it's the same go to's every time it seems like. The metal ones seem to pull better with double willows and the blades spin better at speeds under 2.0

Ya I've noticed that they do spin a little easier. Wish they would make some metal ones in black. If you know of any that color let me know where I can get some.

I haven't seen any metal ones in black but if I run across any I'll let you know.

I've never seen the metal ones in anything but silver. But thanks for the idea. I'm going to paint some black and some red. Just to see if it makes any difference. Now we'll give the manufacturers an idea to sell more clevises.

I've never come across any plated in black, but I'll keep my eye out. I don't think there's an advantage to black though as black is the most visible color in the sprectrum so would be about the same as silver or gold. You can dye them just about any color you want. I have some red dye at the shop and hot pink or yellow here at home. Some of you guys might have that quick dip yourselves, it will dye terminal tackle quite nicely. Larry and I like to dye our snaps and swivels as it makes for a nice wear indicator. When the red is gone, the swivel gets replaced. I work Sun-Mon this week so stop by and I can hit your clevises with the dye if you want to give em a try.

Kev, I know my memory is bad so forgive me. I did a double check of my suppliers and black has always been available it seems. Actually, nickel, brass, gold or black, folded or stirrup. I use size 2 on most blades up to size 4, with the exception of #4 willows and there I step up to a #3. I can order some up next time, let me know what sizes and I'll get some in the shop for you.
